Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Trust appointed Pennington Choices, to carry out a compartmentation survey at a commercial multi-storey office block, as part of a pre-lease due diligence review. The premises was located in the centre of Sheffield, and the floor area totalled over 2500m2.

Why us?
To meet the legal requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, building owners and occupiers must ensure that the fire compartmentation in their buildings is robust and suitably maintained. The objective of fire compartmentation is to prevent the rapid spread of smoke and fire. By subdividing the building, we can protect escape routes, high risk or high-value areas and prevent extensive damage and risk. Though passive fire protection systems are less visible than active fire protection systems, their function is equally as important.

The Challenge

The commercial sector can often be challenging, and this particular office had multiple tenants. In addition, the compartmentation survey was completed during the Covid-19 pandemic, which meant our safe working processes had to be regularly reviewed to ensure we were compliant with ever changing guidance.

What We Did

Pennington Choices completed the survey work over a two-week period, on time and to the full satisfaction of the client.
