Our one day Managing Asbestos training course will build on and develop your existing knowledge of how to manage asbestos in your assets and give you the key information and insight you need to keep your organisation, employees, residents and others safe.

We will help you to understand the key requirements from relevant legislation, codes of practice and guidance and how to apply this to your day to day management and oversight of asbestos within your homes and buildings. We have developed this course to ensure you and your teams know your key duties and how to practically manage asbestos programmes. The course aims to address the key gaps and common pitfalls we find in our work with landlords.

What will you learn?

On completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

•  Understand the requirements of Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, Regulation 4 (Duty to Manage);
•  Understand the importance of holding and managing robust asbestos data and how to get the best from it;
•  Scope an asbestos survey and understand the importance of scoping documents in a successful survey programme;
•  Calculate Material Assessment Scores for asbestos containing materials;
•  Calculate Priority Assessment Scores to help determine how best to manage the asbestos item;
•  Plan and establish a successful reinspection programme;
•  Quality check asbestos surveys and documentation for removal works;
•  Understand the Importance of third party assurance for surveying and removals;
•  Understand how to plan for and manage emergency situations;
•  Understand the importance of providing tenants with asbestos information and empowering them to manage their own health and safety at home.

What problems would this training solve?

Although those involved in managing and delivering asbestos programmes may undertake Asbestos Awareness or other basic asbestos training, this does not provide sufficient knowledge to effectively manage asbestos in housing assets. We often find that officers and managers in roles such as compliance officers, managers and heads of service, do not have sufficient understanding or experience of managing asbestos. As a result there can be ineffective management and a lack of scrutiny and challenge about how asbestos is managed, and a lack of awareness of what the legal requirements are and how to meet best practice.

This course provides more detailed information basic asbestos awareness courses provide, but without the level of detail within P405, or the time to undertake that level of learning.

Who is this course for?

Anyone who has responsibility for managing or overseeing asbestos programmes, or who needs to know the key legal requirements so they can seek assurance from their teams that the key requirements are met.

This includes Directors, Heads of Service, Compliance Co-ordinators , Officers and Administrators. Those attending should have a basic knowledge and understanding of asbestos, and it is presumed that all delegates will be trained to at least 'Asbestos Awareness' level.
