Homes_England_BLK_SML_AWPennington Choices have recently received confirmation that their Asbestos Management team have successfully tendered for and won the contract with Homes England to undertake extensive asbestos demolition surveys across the 134,000m2 City Hospital site located west of central Birmingham.

The hospital site is located in a highly sustainable location alongside key transportation routes into the city center from the wider west midlands conurbation as well as from national strategic road networks. The City Hospital site has the potential to deliver up to c.825 new homes. The site will become vacant when the trust has transferred its operations to the new Midland Metropolitan Hospital. Although an announcement on the opening of the new hospital is awaited, it is possible that works at City Hospital could commence from 2023/24. Pennington Choices will assist by providing a range of Asbestos Management services to successfully de-risk the site prior to demolition works. Pennington Choices’ contract will run for 12 months.

Due to the size and scale of the various buildings making up the site and the gradual decanting of a live and operational clinical environment our Asbestos Project Management team, surveyors and analysts will undertake a varied workload through a phased approach.

Firstly, we will provide data-gap analysis, reviewing all current and relevant information to make sure it is accurate and to ensure tender assumptions and work requirements are built upon. Secondly, our highly skilled and competent BOHS P402 Asbestos Surveyors who have experience across large commercial demolition projects will survey the site and all relevant buildings moving through our agreed phased approach and project timeline. Our Asbestos Project Management team will keep Homes England, City Hospital Birmingham and the multi-disciplinary framework team abreast of the contract’s progression with regular formal meetings and reports. Penultimately, we will help curate the asbestos removals tender specification and provide continuous support. Our experts will provide input into cost estimates and tender questions relaying all findings from our previously undertaken surveys. Finally, we will provide full air monitoring and analytical services throughout the duration of the asbestos works including leak testing, four stage clearance testing and reassurance air testing.
